日 (nichi): means "day" or "sun".
没 (batsu): means "to sink, disappear, or drown"
CONCEPT
Being a big fan of Japanese Carpentry techniques, the name comes from the Japanese translation from the English word for Sunset, Nichi-batsu. The slightly modified spelling helps soften the wording, creating a memorable rhythmical name which aids with Brand recognition.
IDENTITY
Alongside the name, the brand required a strong logo to complete the story. As fortune would have it, I always liked the Bow-Tie shape that was used as a piece of geometry to join two pieces of wood together, and so, the logo was born with the Kanji script for the word 'Nishibotsu' added on the left section of the form.
The Bow-Tie or Butterfly has a strong and instantly recognisable form to help distinguish the Nishibotsu brand.
